PRE ORDERS NOW OPEN FOR DOCTOR WHO COMICS

Many of you will be seasoned comic book fans and regular Doctor Who comic readers already… but if you’re not, and you want to dive into the new comic adventures of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, Titan Comics have put together an FAQ for new readers, covering all the different places you’ll be able to buy the comics, and how you can support it by pre-ordering!

Read on to find out more!

When and Where Are The Comics Available?

The new Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor and Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor series hit comic stores on July 23, 2014. See here for more information about the two series.

These brand-new Doctor Who titles are available in print and digital in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. They’re only available digitally in the UK and Eire.

What’s The Benefit of Pre-Ordering… Can’t I Just Buy The Comic On The Day It Comes Out?

Yes, absolutely – if your local comic store has ordered enough copies!

It’s a weird quirk of the Direct Market that all comic store retailers have to be both time travellers and psychics.

Every comic that they order is non-returnable, so if they don’t sell them, they’re left holding onto stock they have already paid for.

(This is a different model to local bookstores, which are able to return unsold books and get money back for them).

So comics retail is a risky business, full of high-wire balancing acts between ordering too many copies, and too few.

Every pre-ordered comic means a guaranteed sale, and every pre-order they get means they can order more copies for the shelf – in confidence that the demand is high!

That means that the more a retailer sees that a particular title is a sure thing, even before it goes on sale, the more they will order, and the more there will be for casual fans who weren’t smart enough to read this news post! Everybody wins!

You’ll find that many comic stores want to encourage their customers to pre-order and stick around afterwards, and so will often throw in extra discounts, freebies or special rates for customers who pre-order through their store.

All comic stores want to bring new and excited fans through their doors, and keep them happy week after week!

Okay, I Really Don’t Want to Miss Out… How Do I Pre-Order Through A Comic Store?

It’s really easy!

Just head to your local comic book store and tell someone behind the counter that you would like to pre-order one or both of the new Doctor Who titles from Titan Comics.

To make it even easier, we’ve put together a pre-order form – just save it, print it out, and fill it in with your details!

You can even choose which of the two main covers you’d like, and how many. Your retailer can order Cover A and Cover B in any number – Cover B is only for pre-order and subscription customers like you.

Okay, Cool. Will I Need to Pre-Order Every Issue?

Not if you set up a pull-list subscription with your local comic retailer!

That way, you’ll automatically get every new issue of Doctor Who held for you at your shop.

When you set up your pull-list, you can also specify whether you want everyDoctor Who comic from Titan Comics pulled for you (meaning you don’t have to opt-in when the Twelfth Doctor comics launch, and you won’t miss any one-shots or miniseries that will be released in the future), or just the Tenth or Eleventh Doctor series.

Some retailers will also offer you the option of pulling just the first issue of any new related series, so you can try it before you commit.

Just Checking… What’s a Pull-List?

A pull-list is a list of titles that you have pre-ordered, or subscribed to, with your local comics retailer, on a rolling basis.

If you add Doctor Who to your pull-list, then your retailer knows to order and put aside a copy of each Doctor Who title for you each month, as they’re released.

You can then come by the store whenever you like (within reason!) and pick up your pulled books. It’s very convenient!

The comic store knows they have a guaranteed sale, and you don’t have to dive into the scrum on New Comic Book Wednesday to get your favorite title. Better still, there’s no chance they’ll have sold out before you get there!

This All Sounds Awesome. Where’s My Nearest Comic Book Store?

There’s a great service to help you track one down, if you don’t have a favorite local store already.

Visit www.comicshoplocator.com to track down comic book shops from all over the world – or call 1-888-COMIC-BOOK (1-888-26642-2665).

Um… I’m Really Excited About All This, But Comic Stores Weird Me Out / I Don’t Like My Local Store, But I’d Still Rather Get My Books In Print.

Don’t worry, we completely understand.

The vast majority of comic stores are fantastic places run by brilliant, dedicated staff who want nothing more than to share great works of fiction, and for you to discover something new every time you visit.

Every comic store should be a welcoming and fun experience for a new customer – and there are hundreds of comic stores jumping up and down right now just at the thought of getting you as a new regular.

BUT! If you don’t feel comfortable shopping at your local store, then that’s the store’s fault, not yours.

There are some great resources online, pulled together by fans that have rated hundreds of comic book stores on their approachability, openness and comfort-in-shopping factors. If you didn’t luck out on your first try, give them a read, and see if there’s another place near to you that gets good ratings and word of mouth.

Safe Places For Comic Fans:

Feminist-Friendly Comic Book Stores:

Some stores even have specific days or times they’ve set aside for newcomers and female fans, to welcome them in a fun and pressure-free environment – but the important thing is you should feel good about showing up anytime.

If you have a good experience, or find a great shop, then pass it on to the rest of the community!

That’s a lot of information!

You know the Doctor, sometimes he can’t stop babbling… but it’s all useful stuff! :)
